I finally made it to Harrod's to all those who were wondering. I went with my roommate Emily one Thursday a few weeks ago because neither of us had class. We thought about walking through Hyde Park to get there but the rain changed our plans. When we got to Harrod's we got a map and tried to determine where to start. We went to the Egyptian staircase and saw the Princess Diana memorial. Next we took pictures with a 6 foot tall stuffed bear and looked in the souvenir shop.
Two different employees came up to us on two separate occasions asking if we needed help. We came up with the theory that whenever a customer is holding a map, they are trained to assist them. Other than that, no one came up to us asking what we were looking for or if we needed help. Maybe I did need help finding the perfect 500GBP pair of shoes.
After wandering aimlessly, we found the cafeteria. We of course supported the bakery and got two pastries each. I ate my strawberries and cream cookie right away. The hazelnut and chocolate pastry was dessert that night. We thought about eating lunch at Harrod's but realized how close we were to Chinatown. We decided to try out a Chinese buffet for lunch. We both needed to fill our fried food fix. On the way back to the flat we stopped at a large souvenir shop in Piccadilly Circus. I may or may not have gotten some gifts for loved ones...
Harrods is a pretty nice corner store isn't it? Was it anything like you thought it would be? It is so great that you are seeing so many things and trying so many different kinds of foods. You may be more adventurous than I am.
ReplyDeleteIt was so great to come to the computer and find three blogs. Yeah!
Gpa comes home tomorrow and J and D are spending the night here after D has a meeting at Harvard. Tomorrow morning, S and D,Sar and JaJ and D are all going to a soccer game of R, J, and M.
You were busy updating all at once, weren't you? It's great to see all these pictures! We've been busy getting ready for Halloween. I might even dress up a little bit to give out candy; I've never done that before.
ReplyDeleteDo they celebrate Halloween in England? I don't remember. A quick Google seems to indicate that they do trick-or-treating but don't carve pumpkins.
I remember going trick-or-treating with you once. You were wearing a princess outfit or something that was way too cold for the NY weather. I went trick-or-treating with Josh once, too. He was a vampire and I wore Grandma's teabag costume. (Doesn't everyone have a teabag costume lying about?)
Anyway, happy Halloween, Hayley!
Love, Aunt Melanie
Hayley- I can't wait to shop at Harrods. We will have so much fun when I am there! I am starting to count the days. Love you! MOM
ReplyDeleteGma - Sounds like you had a fun time with J and D. Not sure who JaJ is though? When did we get a new family member that no one told me about?!
ReplyDeleteAunt Melanie - Yes, children do go trick or treating here. I asked a family while on the bus today because I was curious as well. I have also seen pumpkins in the grocery stores so they might carve pumpkins here but am not positive. What did T, K, and S going as this year?
K was an evil clown. T was a stick figure, made with long glow sticks - his own idea and very cool. S was a Sith Lord. I wore camouflage pants, dog tags (made from tin foil), and a camouflage helmet to answer the door. No one commented on my outfit, though!
