I am officially no longer a teenager... yay! I celebrated my birthday a little differently this year. I'm at school in London so I wasn't with the usual suspects. I had two midterms and a paper due the next day so I spent most of my birthday studying. Jake tried to make me french toast that morning but I ended up having to take over. It's the thought that counts I guess. I bought cupcakes from the grocery store down the street but they only had enough of one kind, Halloween decorated. 'Tis the season. Jake was also going to make me porcupine meatballs but we decided last minute to try an Italian restaurant since we never go out to eat. We had fried risotto balls to start then I had carbonara as my main dish. It was good food but the service was so slow. Welcome to Europe I suppose... We celebrated with the roommates back at the flat by having cupcakes while they sang to me.
Thank you for all of the emails, blog comments, facebook posts and everything else. It made my birthday really sink in when I was able to hear from family. Miss and love you all!
It was very weird to be so far away from you on your birthday, and I didn't like it. I hope you do not make a habit of it! I enjoyed reading a little more about your birthday. Love, MOM
ReplyDeleteI turned 20 in Germany; I know how it feels! At that time, 20 was also "legal," so I turned "legal" to drink in a country where there was no age limit -- it was meaningless. Of course I didn't drink then anyway, so it was doubly meaningless.
ReplyDeleteI did learn to drink wine there, though, on a student trip which included wine-tasting. Trial by fire -- 7 bottles of wine for a table of 6, and one of us stopped drinking halfway through. Yikes.
It sounds like a good birthday even though it was different.
Love,
Aunt Melanie
